CMC has been guided by the peerless passion of our founder and energy-efficiency pioneer, Doris Iklé since its creation at a kitchen tabletop in 1977. Since our humble beginnings, CMC has been driven by a simple mission: to deliver energy savings to America’s neediest families.
We have remained true to this mission while expanding to become a leading provider of program management and energy services for all utility sectors. Today, CMC employs a staff of roughly 400 across 10 states – and we continue to grow.
We remain women-owned and women-led. As one of the few certified Women’s Business Enterprises offering comprehensive program management services to the energy efficiency industry, CMC continues to be led by inspiring women.
During our 46-year history, we have secured 100+ utility contracts and have helped more than 600,000 single-family and multifamily customers reduce their energy bills by as much as 25 percent. We annually complete more than 40,000 in-home energy assessments. CMC is the residential energy efficiency portfolio manager for PECO, overseeing all of the utility’s Act 129 programs. We handle more than 400,000 inbound and outbound calls annually on behalf of the various programs we support for utilities throughout the nation. CMC provides full portfolio call center support for ComEd and Pepco, leveraging the cross-market skills of our customer engagement professionals.
CMC’s 35+ utility and government clients currently include the program ranked #1 in the country by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (Mass Save) and two utilities ranked first in their respective regions for customer satisfaction by J.D. Power (PPL Electric Utilities and Ameren Illinois).
On the commercial and industrial side, CMC has delivered more than 1,300 GWh of energy savings on behalf of state and utility programs. We apply a comprehensive approach to the commercial marketplace, utilizing integrated marketing and outreach strategies to stimulate customer and trade ally engagement. In addition, we encourage cross-program participation to deliver cost-effective measure adoption, CMC’s C&I outreach, and engineering staff are industry experts, skilled and trained in the nexus between technical expertise and consultative sales. The team is educated in CMC’s proprietary consultative sales and communication techniques—and, every team member is either Certified Energy Managers (CEM) or LEED-certified. We understand how to effectively explain program value propositions to the key decision-makers with metrics that matter for each industry.
CMC provides engineering services that identify both short- and long-term deeper measure savings to include both equipment upgrades and O&M behavioral changes. CMC’s engineering team performs hundreds of facility assessments annually, assisting customers with the creation and execution of comprehensive energy strategies and improvements.
CMC also delivers marketing and trade ally program management services for C&I, multifamily, small business, and midstream programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Illinois, successfully increasing trade ally engagement across all program measures. Since 2009, CMC has provided sector-specific and industry-focused training to customers, service providers, distributors and engaged key influencer associations to deliver program goals.
CMC’s marketing team supports efficiency programs for residential and commercial gas, electric, and water utilities¬–creating marketing and communications plans, content, and channel distribution. We provide portfolio marketing services as well as individual program awareness and engagement in multiple states.
In addition to those services, CMC is a leader in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control market. CMC is the QA/QC provider for the entire Mass Save program and recently started QA/QC work for ComEd.
Most recently, we’ve enhanced our support for clean heating and cooling technology, including ductless heat pumps, for several different markets. CMC coordinated an 80-unit cold climate ductless heat pump (DHP) pilot for ComEd for multifamily, income eligible customers. Now under a full implementation contract for ComEd, CMC will install 2,000 DHPs in income-eligible, multifamily sites during the next four years. CMC also mapped the entire HVAC ecosystem for NYSERDA to help them determine ways to revolutionize the HVAC market and push it toward electrification.
