This presentation will focus on the best practices for utilizing heat pumps in cold climates. Heat pump retrofits are being incentivized through various local and federal programs. The stakes are high. If heat pumps are misapplied, it could burden customers financially and cause comfort complaints. This session will review heat pump set options, such as all-electric and dual fuel systems, and the design conditions for each system. We will also focus on the fundamentals of heat pump design, load calculations, and duct modifications.
Learning Objectives:
By attending this session, attendees will:
Understand why heat pumps are incentivized to replace combustion fuel appliances from a carbon dioxide emissions perspective
By attending this session will allow attendees to review typical heat pump arrangements and discuss their pros and cons
Learn installation best practices for cold climate heat pump installations
