Optimizing Heating and Electric Loads in Retrofits

PART 1: Solving Electrical Capacity and Breaker Space Constraints:

ABSTRACT: Electrical constraints can significantly increase costs and delays in home retrofit projects. Power-efficient approaches—using low-power appliances, load controls, and design strategies—can overcome these challenges, allowing homes to use existing infrastructure. This session will summarize the current ability of the building stock to add new loads, demonstrate how new loads contribute to home peak power, and provide an overview of new technologies and upcoming National Electric Code revisions.

PART 2: Electrification essentials for comfort and performance:

ABSTRACT: Electrification looks easy on its face: Swap one box for another and run an electrical circuit to it. Getting good results often requires a deeper dive, balancing electrical requirements, installation complexity and cost. This session will cover lessons learned in the field and at a policy level on how to effectively electrify homes while remaining cost competitive.
