Deputy Director National Center for Healthy Housing Columbia, Maryland
It seems to happen more often these days. A weather event with a lot of rain hits our communities leading to flooding and possibly wind damage. We know that the immediate needs of our clients and past clients generally fall outside of the tools in our energy efficiency toolboxes. But in speaking with energy efficiency professionals in these communities, there is still a strong desire to know what they might be able to do to help. In this session, attendees will learn the five basic rules of residential flood clean-up. These rules are being taught to Rebuilding Together staff and professionals to help serve their clients. These rules and other helpful resources can be shared with homeowners and other local housing providers to help them with clean-up. And the lessons can be helpful to energy efficiency professionals as they reengage with clients and their homes in the aftermath of these disasters.
Learning Objectives:
By attending this session, attendees will:
Session attendees will understand the five rules of flood clean-up: Protect, Clean, Treat, Dry, Improve
Session attendees will learn about resources to share with current and past clients affected by flooding events. (And sometimes, these resources may end up helping address flooding issues in our own homes.)
Session attendees will be more knowledgeable about the conditions they may encounter when entering cient homes after flooding disasters and the steps they can take to protect themselves and their clients.
