From Program to Practice: Decarbonizing Affordable Multifamily Housing

Learn from affordable multifamily housing developers and program implementers on what challenges must be addressed to stand up impactful electrification programs, and what key assistance is most useful to drive retrofits from theory to practice.

Panelists—each on the frontlines of tackling barriers to decarbonization in MF affordable housing—will present their approach, tools, and funding sources used to support electrification retrofit projects.

Danielle Donnelly will provide case studies from the Climate Friendly Homes Fund, working with multifamily affordable housing owners and New York’s state and city partners to pursue aggressive approaches to electrify buildings and implement energy efficiency measures.

Julie Klump will review what POAH has done to reduce energy and carbon in existing buildings in Massachusetts, discuss the nitty gritty of design, funding, and procurement, and make recommendations for other developers and designers.

Leslie Zarker will discuss NHT’s experience standing up a quasi-public/private electrification + healthy housing program in Washington D.C. The program will deliver electrification, energy efficiency, and healthy housing measures in six affordable multifamily properties with a prevalence of children with asthma.
