Moving from Property to Portfolio: Strategic Decarbonization Pathways for Multifamily Housing

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction is the new focus for energy planning. For affordable multifamily housing owners that means considering their existing portfolios in a new way. GHG emissions reduction and electrification requires a whole-portfolio strategic approach. The presenters will highlight how organizations are using programs such as the Better Building Challenge and Better Climate Challenge to set goals, define baselines and develop implementation plans. Approaches to be shared include an organization-wide sustainability action plan, tools for energy and emissions tracking, and roadmaps for portfolio-wide energy and GHG emissions reduction.

The presenters, all on the frontlines of this effort, will describe programs, tools, and funding sources used to develop and implement strategic plans. Sustainability expert Kim is guiding several organizations as they develop and implement organization- and portfolio-wide sustainability and decarbonization plans. Lauren directs the energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies team at an organization whose members represent the largest non-profit affordable housing organizations in the country. Tom and Michael will describe the on-going decarbonization efforts at two large organizations and what they are learning as they develop and implement their strategies. You will leave this session with inspiration and increased knowledge to develop and implement your own plans.
