We address a lot of things in energy efficiency programs. However, pests is not something that we tend to focus on, other than as a reason for deferral if the infestation is large enough. However, pests are one of the most critical triggers of respiratory issues such as asthma, and addressing them is a key component of a comprehensive healthy homes program. Fortunately, for many homes, integrated pest management (IPM) can be a successful and achievable strategy. This session will introduce participants to pests, what they do, and how to make a home a place they don't want to be. We will explore the steps involved in IPM, including the critical role that client education and engagement play in achieving the desired outcomes. We will discuss what energy efficiency efforts already do to have a beneficial impact. Even if you don't have a healthy homes program, knowledge of IPM prepares you to support clients who have issues with pests.
