Eric Werling recently retired from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) after 30 years of federal service, including various leadership roles with 4 game-changing national programs: EPA’s Energy Star for Homes and Indoor airPLUS, and DOE’s Building America and Zero Energy Ready Homes programs. Together, they helped make the value of energy efficiency & indoor air quality (IAQ) visible and measurable, cut in half the energy intensity of new homes in the U.S., improve indoor environments for millions of American families, increase durability and resilience of homes in the face of increasing natural disasters, and most importantly prove that construction businesses & trades can manage innovation risks profitably. Today, Eric is Owner and Principal Consultant of Home Innovation Strategies, LLC, a new consulting company serving innovators in and adjacent to the housing industry. Eric holds an MBA and MS in Architectural Engineering from Penn State, and a BS from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a proud grandfather, musician, and veteran.
