Nick Hurst is an Environmental Protection Specialist with over 24 years in the construction industry as a self-employed remodeler, production framer, residential project manager, consultant and trainer on high-performance building, and most recently, the technical lead for the EPA’s Indoor AirPlus certification program.
Nick earned a Master’s in Technology concentrating in Building Science from Appalachian State University, later serving as Education and Outreach Director for the NC Energy Efficiency Alliance at ASU’s Energy Center. Before joining the EPA, Nick worked as a consultant at ICF in their Federal Energy Efficiency portfolio.
Nick has trained under numerous high-performance certification programs (BPI, RESNET, USGBC, PHIUS) and has been an active participant with voluntary consensus standards, technical committees, and training development organizations, including ASHRAE 62.2, ANSI/AARST CCAH, the Well for Residential Advisory, and the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) Building Science Advisory Board. He has far less technical training in music, but just as much passion for its creation and refinement, as a similarly powerful consensus-building and communications tool.
