Dave is a senior research engineer with the Center for Energy and Environment. He has worked there since 1988 and has over 35 years experience in energy efficiency and indoor air quality in commercial and residential buildings. He has been the manager of a variety of applied research and program development projects. His research includes measurements of commercial building envelope and duct sealing, aerosol envelope sealing, ventilation improvements for multifamily units, residential duct system testing, and the efficiency of tankless water heaters. He is the lead on a DOE Building America project focusing on methods to encourage more extensive envelope improvements and install appropriate size/type ASHPs.
His IAQ research includes assessments of secondhand smoke exposure in cars, apartments, outdoor patios, and bars & restaurants, the transfer of contaminants from garages, and strategies to reduce the transfer of airbourne infections diseases in hospitals. . He was the manager of the CEE’s IAQ group for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Residential Sound Insulation Program that performed testing and remediation of 7,500+ single family houses. He holds a Masters degree in Engineering from Princeton University, a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, and is a registered Professional Engineer.
